These videos highlight certain physical properties of the materials China Precision Ceramic machines

If you are looking for the right material to use in your project, China Precision Ceramic’s Designer’s Guide helps narrow down the list of materials that meet your requirements. In addition to the Designer’s Guide, the videos below help illustrate how the correct material selection can lead to the success of your project. We demonstrate several physical properties for various materials to help you make the correct choice when selecting a material.

Zirconia vs. Macor – Field Test Comparison

The impact toughness of Ziconia is shown in this video. For comparison, we included hitting Macor with a hammer. Without spoiling the result of the video, one material is undamaged by the hammer strike where the other is completely destroyed.

Thermal Conductivity Experiment

What we did was fabricate simple rods from a selection of technical ceramics and from some representative metals including steel and aluminum. Then as a group, we subjected them uniformly to high heat on one end and put the other end onto a block of ice to see which will melt the ice the fastest.

Tight Tolerance of Piston/Sleeve Assemblies

These pieces represent a large part of our business we developed by learning how to achieve the very tight diameters, and cylindricities needed for these applications. With piston/sleeve clearances down to .00004″, pumping is possible without use of flexible seals. Applications include cryogenic pumping and precision metering. Materials can be alumina, industrial sapphire, or most other technical ceramics. To help explain the tight tolerance, we make the assembly “pop.”

The Scratch Resistance of Sapphire

In this video, we demonstrate how well sapphire resists scratching. We compare sapphire to glass. On the Mohs scale of hardness, sapphire ranks at 9 (with diamond being a perfect 10). The glass sample does not stand a chance against the razor blade and concrete block. The sapphire sample does not suffer one scratch.
